As moms, we sometimes tend to put ourselves last. As solo moms, guilt and negative sense of self can cause us to abandon self care altogether. Most of us have moved beyond the guilt and neglect. But some of us still struggle with the idea of putting ourselves first. It’s no wonder that even at an early age, we begin to slow down, feel pain and just can’t function properly.
But Putting ourselves first doesn’t necessarily mean we put our kids last or that we neglect others. It just means we pay a little more attention to “me”. And by doing so you are healthier and stronger for them.

A very popular analogy about the oxygen mask illustrates the real meaning and effect of self care. We are taught that if something should happen while we are on an airplane, the wise thing to do is to put the oxygen mask on ourselves first before we attempt to help anyone else.
This is true in our daily lives. How can we help others if we are unhealthy and stress out? What good are we to others if we are always tired and unfulfilled? That’s the question I’m asking myself as I strive for empowerment and wellbeing.
Do you take time out to pray or meditate? What about a nice walk when you are feeling down or contemplative?
I’ve prepared a simple infographic of 21 ideas (secrets if you will), that can help you to look and feel young (and hopefully healthy).
I hope you will enjoy it. If you already practice some of the secrets or if you do practice some or all of them (challenge), why not come back here and share your ideas and experience with us?
